VDW – Portrait of the German Machine Tool Builders' Association
The German Machine Tool Builders' Association (VDW) based in Frankfurt/Main has represented the interests of the German machine tool industry for more than 120 years. Together with the trade association for machine tools and manufacturing systems affiliated with the VDMA, it has a voluntary membership of approx. 290 firms which account for about 90 percent of total turnover in the industry. The VDW represents the interests of its members both within German and throughout the world.
VDW on one hand is the face of the industry to the public, politics, business partners and science. But first of all it is a service provider for its members. Based on an in-depth knowledge of the industry, the VDW informs them with supreme competence, provides advice, and supports them concerning individual questions and problems.
Additionally VDW organizes exhibitions for the international machine tool industry. VDW has logged up more than 90 years of experience in organizing trade events. With the quality seal "A Fair by VDW" the VDW stages the METAV in Düsseldorf an on behalf of the European Committee for Co-operation of the Machine Tool Industries (CECIMO) organizes the EMO Hannover in Hanover.
In addition VDW accompanies its members to manufacturing technology exhibitions in the most important export markets. The association applies for German official joint company participations at the German Ministry of Economics. This assists small and medium-sized companies to penetrate new markets.
For a good 10 years, the VDW has also been organizing technology symposia in developing markets. German machine tool builders who participate in those events showcase their corporate capabilities exclusively to the most important customer groupings of the country concerned. The message says "we are the most worthful technology partners to build up and modernize your industry!"
