International Additive Manufacturing Award IAMA to be granted at METAV 2016
The AMT - The Association for Manufacturing Technology and VDW – Verein Deutscher Werkzeugmaschinenfabriken (German Machine Tool Builders’ Association) in 2014 mutually launched IAMA - International Additive Manufacturing Award. The inaugural award ceremony took place in Miama, Florida in March of 2015. In 2016, the award was granted on the 24 February at the METAV 2016.
The award recognizes innovations in additive manufacturing for industrial applications. This includes developments in the design of systems or major components, advances in processes or materials, new applications, data generation or measurement.
The winner will receive a $20,000 cash prize and a media package valued at $80,000 to promote the winning development.
AMT and VDW founded the International Additive Manufacturing Award program recognizing that the United States and Germany are the key markets/regions for additive technology in terms of suppliers, users and academia. Both partners have the understanding required to encourage the international community to participate in this initiative and support the exchange of views and knowledge.

The German Machine Tool Builders' Association (VDW) based in Frankfurt am Main has represented the interests of the German machine tool industry for more than 120 years. Together with the trade association for machine tools and manufacturing systems affiliated with the VDMA, it has a voluntary membership of approx. 300 firms which account for about 90 percent of total turnover in the industry. The VDW represents the interests of its members both within Germany and throughout the world. The VDW on the one hand is the face of the industry to the public, politics, business partners and science. But first of all it is a service provider for its members. Based on an in-depth knowledge of the industry, the VDW informs them with supreme competence, provides advice, and supports them concerning individual questions and problems. Additionally, the VDW organizes exhibitions for the international machine tool industry. The VDW has logged up more than 90 years of experience in organizing trade events. It stages EMO Hannover with the quality seal “A Fair by VDW” on behalf of the European Committee for Co-operation of the Machine Tool Industries (CECIMO). The VDW also stages its own international trade fair for production engineering and automation, the METAV in Düsseldorf. www.VDW.de
