In-house multimachine solution by Fehlmann, one Robot serves two PICOMAX machining centres
22/12/2011
The system comprises one to two PICOMAX machining centres, one loading robot and the “multi-machine” capable Milling Centre Manager (MCMTM).
PICOMAX high-performance machining centres
5-axes high speed machining centre Fehlmann PICOMAX 825 VERSA in portal design equipped with a direct driven tilting rotary table integrated in the X-axis and the fully digital Heidenhain control iTNC 530. The heart of the PICOMAX 825 VERSA is the Fehlmann HSC motor spindle. Whether with HSK-A63 and 14’000 or 20’000 rpm or with HSK-E50 and 30’000 rpm – all spindle types grant low-vibration and precise concentricity for best surfaces and maximum tool life.
In the standard version, the tool changer with chain magazine offers room for 44 tools up to Ø 130mm max.
An extension magazine with up to 250 pockets is optionally available.
The FEM- and topology-optimized machine structure is based on a 3-point support and made from grey cast iron. The VERSA-concept, patent-registered, is not only space saving, it also grants the extremely safe and fast operation of the machine and is easily automated.
Application: Ideally suited for 5-side or 5-axes machining of complex work pieces, dynamic HSC milling as well as for machining of hardly free-cutting materials.
High speed machining centre Fehlmann PICOMAX 60-HSC in extremely robust and compact construction with integrated coordinate table and automatic tool changing system for up to 48 tools. The high-speed spindle integrated into the vertical column is supported by a hybrid bearing (ceramic balls and steel rings), have a Z/S interpolations and speed ranges up to 20’000 / 30’000 / 36’000 or 42’000 rpm depending on the selected version.
The large distance between table and spindle nose allows for machining high work pieces as well as using of a Fehlmann automatic dividing and swivelling unit for 5-side or 5-axes machining.
Application: The machining possibilities cover the whole range – from conventional cutting up to high-speed machining of hardened steels for tool and mould making as well as for the manufacturing of complex high-accuracy parts – especially for 3D and 5-axes tasks.
The system
The operating ergonomics of the automated system is one of its outstanding characteristics. The system has been developed for the efficient machining of single parts and prototypes as well as for series part production. The workpiece loading system ERM is extremely universal and can virtually be configured to match each and any of your applications. Up to six magazine discs may be loaded in the part magazine which offers a capacity for more than 100 pallets depending on their size. As a result, very long - and also unmanned - shifts may be run.
The machines remain operable from the front without restriction. If you are not sure about where you will need automatic loading/unloading before placing the first order, a Fehlmann automation may be retrofitted at any time.
Easy controlling and monitoring with the Fehlmann Milling Center Manger (MCMTM)
The entire system is controlled by a host processor, the milling center manager (MCMTM). It ensures that the workpieces are picked-up from the magazine, loaded into the appropriate chuck and returned to their assigned location following the machining process observing the correct order. This powerful processor turns the equipment into a completely autonomous system which on the other side may also be integrated into the customer's network with ease. The high flexibility of the MCM allows for adapting the system to practically every application.
Everything from a single source:
Consulting, production, delivery, training, commissioning and service.
Machines and MCM software are an in-house development by Fehlmann and are of course also produced in the main production works in Seon/Switzerland. The complete systems are designed at Fehlmann, configured and tailored to customer’s requirements as well as tested under this condition. The overall responsibility thus lies with the machine manufacturer.
