Production technology as the key to electromobility - North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) demonstrates its production competences at the METAV 2012
20/12/2011
Frankfurt am Main, 20 December 2011. – To coincide with the METAV 2012, North Rhine-Westphalia’s Mechanical Engineering and Production Technology Cluster, ProduktionNRW, is organising a symposium on the subject of “Production technology as the key to electromobility.” It will complement the joint North Rhine-Westphalian stand spotlighting various clusters in the state, who are for the second time already participating in the international trade fair for production technology and automation (28 February to 3 March 2012).
The programme for the symposium on 29 February 2012 kicks off with a discussion on the requirements applying to production technology for electromobility, chaired by Prof. Dr. Lutz Eckstein from the Institute of Vehicle Engineering (IKA) at RWTH University in Aachen. Companies from North Rhine-Westphalia will be showcasing technologies and products for manufacturing equipment, while VDMA (German Engineering Federation) will be displaying its substantively relevant initiatives and research platforms. The programme will be rounded off by a presentation of NRW’s “Electromobility Shop Window”.
NRW’s joint stand: efficient production – competences from NRW
At the METAV 2012, North Rhine-Westphalia will be demonstrating its capabilities when it comes to efficient production, with a joint NRW stand that will be showcasing various facets of efficient production in the fields of surface engineering, production technology, energy and material-efficiency, plus automotive applications. The stand at the fair is being organised by the following clusters: ProduktionNRW, Autocluster.NRW, NanoMikro+Werkstoffe.NRW, EnergieForschung.NRW, EnergieRegion.NRW, the EnergieAgentur.NRW and the NRW Effizienz-Agentur together with the Ministry of Economics, Energy, Building, Housing and Transport.
Making new contacts – harnessing potentials
The State of North Rhine-Westphalia aims to utilise its cluster policy to strengthen key and sunrise industries by means of economic development initiatives, location marketing and a purposefully targeted innovation strategy. Plant and equipment manufacturing is one of 16 sectors that promise particularly abundant potential for growth and economic development.
ProduktionNRW is the Mechanical Engineering and Production Technology Cluster in North Rhine-Westphalia, and is organised by the VDMA NRW. ProduktionNRW sees its role as a platform for intermeshing companies, institutions and networks with each other and along the entire value chain. The ProduktionNRW Cluster, operating throughout the state, plus the regional networks that have formed in North Rhine-Westphalia, are pursuing the goal of strengthening the economic and technological performance capabilities of the companies in their own city or region, so as to make North Rhine-Westphalia the Number One location for mechanical engineering excellence.

METAV 2012 in Düsseldorf
The next METAV will be held from 28 February to 3 March 2012 in Düsseldorf. In the even years, it has firmly established itself as an important technology shop window for the entire gamut of manufacturing technology and automation in Germany for manufacturers and customers from Europe. The METAV will be showcasing the entire spectrum of manufacturing technology, focusing on machine tools, production systems, high-precision tools, automated material flows, computer technology, industrial electronics and accessories. The METAV’s visitor target group includes all major industrial sectors, particularly plant and machinery manufacturers, the automotive industry and its component suppliers, aerospace, the electrical engineering industry, the metalworking sector, medical technology and the craft sector. At the last METAV in 2010, around 700 exhibitors showcased their products, solutions and services on more than 32,000 m² of net exhibition area. They attracted approximately 45,000 trade visitors from 26 different countries.
