Special Events Overview 2010

The METAV has traditionally addressed topics and trends currently under discussion in the field of production engineering. At METAV 2010, a whole series of events offered trade visitors additional information as background to what the exhibitors were showcasing.

Special Show Metal meets Medical
Under the title of “Metal meets Medical”, the Siemens company, together with partners from the fields of machine tools, tools and metrology, showed a digital factory with the entire process chain required for manufacturing technical medical products. Also, on a shared stand organised by the trade periodical MM MaschinenMarkt, exhibitors showcased their corporate capabilities for the expanding market of medical technology.

Forum Medical Technology
To complement the special show “Metal meets Medical”, the trade periodical DeviceMed – a specialist magazine for manufacturers of technical medical products - hosted a specialist forum. Around 30 experts provided information on the idiosyncrasies of machining jobs in an environment of stringent statutory stipulations for medical technology.

Symposium Energy-efficient machine tools – requirements and solutions for sustainable manufacturing technology
Energy-efficiency will be the mega-issue of the years ahead. Global warming leaves us with no alternative. So inevitably the focus on industrial production processes will intensify. We’re all going to have to get used to this, the vendors of production technology, its users and the component suppliers involved. This is why VDW and PTW Darmstadt jointly hosted a seminar on the subject of “Energy-efficient machine tools – requirements and solutions for sustainable manufacturing technology”.

Special Show for Young People “Mechanical Engineering – a Job with Power”
This special show, jointly organised by the VDW-Nachwuchsstiftung and partners, is already a traditional feature of the VDW’s trade fairs. Top-ranking companies from the sector showcased the services and opportunities they provide for the people they recruit. Contact persons from universities and technical colleges provided information on opportunities in technical training. For any pupils interested, trainees and students were available to answer their questions. A good 4,000 pupils from vocational and further education schools visited METAV 2010.

Seminar "Production technology on the road to electro-mobility"
Showcased potentials and opportunities for companies and the particular importance of production technology for developing automotive drive systems.

Special Show – Automobile Drives of the Future
The North Rhine-Westphalian state clusters ProduktionNRW, Automotive, Energy Research, Energy Management and Nano-Micro+Materials investigatied the effects of e-mobility on the production technology involved. They maped out the challenges and opportunities entailed for the companies involved, and how these can take full advantage of them. In addition, they showcased the performance capabilities of companies, universities and institutes from North Rhine-Westphalia in this up-to-the-future field.
